Goodreads: Katie is always surrounded by wealth, but feels terribly alone because of the secret horror of her angry, abusive father. When she s thrown out of her house and put into foster care, it seems like the end of the world. But as she moves through the foster care system, she begins to realize that she can help others. Can she, at last, find courage and strength of her own?
Pre-Review: This diary opened my eyes to the Foster care of kids how they could be abused, though I've seen news reports and already believed what goes on. Just seeing it all through the eyes of a young girl who experienced it just makes you realize were this world has been coming to...
Review: Finding Katie: The Diary of Anonymous, A Teenager in Foster Care... This novel was a whole new view of life and how horrible it can be. You may have heard stories about foster care and how it is corrupted, and how at times kids are being abused by foster parents or even other foster kids wither it is verbal, psychical or even sexual abuse, but you may have never actually seen it or lived it. That is where this diary comes in, the story of Katie and how she ends up in the foster care system. The way she writes her life story is as if you were really there and at times you may wish you could stop the event happening (or at least I do). Not like I didn't believe the stories of the foster care system, but after reading this. Made me see how foster care should be brought up better.
I bought this book at Dollar Tree for 99 cents (of course), and how I am glad I did. This book, as I said makes you see how horrible life can be. The story line starts off with Katie and her family she describes her father to be distant and portrays her mother as a trophy wife. Katie had everything a mother and father, a big house with maids and cooks, a fancy private school... everything a girl may wish for, but her life wasn't perfect... especially her parents...
As I was reading this novel... I did NOT like Katie's father, he just gave me a bad vibe (read this novel to see what I am talking about), her mother seemed to be ruled by him so most of the times she would be "asleep" or so it seemed... but every time it was time to go to a family gathering she would be the "perfect" wife any man would want by their side. As you could already see from what I may have spoiled... there is something wrong with these parents which affects soon to be fifteen or sixteen (can't remember) year old Katie... And as you may already figured Katie gets kicked out of the house... (won't say why or how) but she gets kicked out and is found by a man... lies about her age... in order to get help... because she believed she would be left to survive on her own...
Katie goes from having everything to having nothing to call her own in an instant and ends up in the foster care system were at times meets great people and sees things most people would not want to live in a life time...
I will NOT spoil the story any longer.... you could feel in the blanks and imagine what see lives through or you could buy/rent/borrow a copy and READ it. This is a TRUE STORY about a real girl... who suffered through this... she sees a lot of things she tries to help out... and if you read this you may find out how she ends her story...
All I could say is I loved this story... maybe not the situations that accorded, but this was an eye opening read...
